This year is a significant year in the life of Lakeside as we celebrate 30 years since the beginning of Lakeside Lightning! Over the past 30 years the club has grown, changed and evolved into what it is today, and it is a privilege to be a small part of the history of Lakeside Lightning.

From humble beginnings in 1995 with just 4 WABL teams, Lakeside Lightning has grown into a powerhouse of talent and community. By 2000, we expanded to 14 teams, and in 2025, we’re proud to have 34 WABL teams! Our journey continued with the semi-professional SBL (now NBL1), with the men’s team joining in 2000 and the women’s team in 2001. Since then, Lakeside has won 4 Men’s championships and 2 Women’s championships.  There have been 5 women’s players awarded the league MVP, and 2 men’s players receiving the same honour.

From players, coaches, team managers, chaplains, staff, volunteers, sponsors and supporters there has been countless people who have made the club what it is today, and we are so thankful to everyone who has contributed.
